Concert

Thinking back, it was strange I often ended up playing the guitar/drums for Chinese language concert or competitions though I'm a banana' guy.
(That was back in the Uni days...and I think my "Cina" language had improved quite a
bit now :P )
Music surpasses all language barriers, eh?

This time around in Penang,I got my 1st "offer" to play the drums for a Chinese Charity Concert in one of the Komtar Auditorium.
I was briefed that this mini concert was for the China Earthquake Relief Fund organized by Guang Ming chinese newspaper and a musical organization called YouYoungs

How I got contacted for this event is a long story, so I will probably omit.

It is fun being the banana guy in the band while it lasted...
1)They have to switch to English conversing with me, if they see me faltering with my limited mandarin vocab.
2)There was always someone nearby informing me when is our turn to go up stage as I cant understand what the MC said on the event itself

Hmm..I started to miss the concert already now that is is over. All of them are really nice, though it is a shame I didn't really get to know everyone.
Due to my awkward Mandarin.. I cant really converse freely. Haha

Most of all,it is to my delight that I got to share the stage with two other pro bands..Oceans of Fire and Uglymen
Probably those of you who followed the local music scene would probably know of OOF as Yamaha Asian Beat finalist, and Uglymen as a Malaysian local rock act.

Ocean of Fire's drummer (Jonathan Scully) is so freaking, freaking good that I wish I can transplant that talented brains of his into mine.
Or maybe just his right hand will do...because he can execute those 1 handed 16th rolls so perfectly mean!
OOF Bassist Jon Chen, also my church member is really one of the best I had seen so far, whose skills he would always downplay when I gave my sincere praise. For that, he would be one of the humble fella I had known too:)

In a good way, sometimes it makes me plain miserable just to compare their level of skills with mine. It's off to practice more fervently from now on. Haha

All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable night for me though.I think I played my part OK.
I hope for more playing opportunities to come soon.

Here are some random pics from my inferior 2.0 camera hand phone.
